How Bridge Unlocked works.

From your very first trick to full deals at the table, one small step at a time.

Why Bridge Unlocked

You learn it during a bridge class. When do you use it again?

In a bridge class you meet a new idea, practice it on a handful of hands, and the class moves on. Then you wait for it to come up at the table. Some conventions appear only occasionally at the table, and by then the detail can be hard to recall. That’s where Bridge Unlocked comes in.

Bridge Unlocked sits beside your classes. Pick the topic you covered this week and practice it on as many hands as you like, in the system your club plays, until it becomes instinct. Go back to anything, any time. You decide what to work on; we make sure every hand is right.

Not in a class?

  • New to bridge? Find out what the game is all about, starting from the very first trick. One small step at a time, at your own pace, with no class needed.
  • Coming back to it? Bridge is a game of repetition. Refresh the basics, or the convention you’ve half forgotten, without starting over.
  • Already playing? Sharpen the parts of your game that come up least often and cost the most when they do.

However you learn, Bridge Unlocked makes it stick.

Start with a real lesson, not a sign-up form.

Your first lesson, The Game of Bridge, is free and ready now. No account, no card details, no password. Just open it and begin. If you enjoy it, add your email at the end to save your progress. If not, simply close it. Nothing is lost and nothing is asked of you.

Always free: all of Bridge Basics and the first lesson of every topic, in both systems, plus today’s Daily Deal.

Already play? Tell us, and start where you are: Improver builds step by step, and Advanced is a library you can dip into.

Tell us where you’re starting from.

A few quick questions set you up: the text size that’s easiest to read, whether you’ve played before, and which bidding system you’ll use. Most clubs in Ireland and the UK play ACOL, so we’ll suggest it if you’re here. If you’ll mostly play online or elsewhere, 5‑card majors may suit you better. Not sure? There’s a 30‑second comparison, and you can switch any time in Settings without losing your progress.

Which System? →

One idea at a time, then a question.

Each lesson is broken into short steps: a single idea, an example hand, then a question to check you’ve understood. Get it wrong and nothing bad happens. You’ll see a clear explanation of why and carry on. Every topic ends with a short test, and you can go back over any lesson as often as you like without affecting your progress.

Try this 3NT. At trick one, do you take the ace? The review explains why, or why not.

Practice most topics, then play full deals.

Most topics come with practice hands chosen to match them. You bid or play them, depending on the topic, and see a clear review of what happened and why. When you’re ready, play complete deals from the first bid to the last trick, with the computer as your partner and opponents. Large, clear cards, no clock and no pressure. Replay any hand whenever you like.

Two minutes a day keeps it fresh.

The Daily Deal is one short deal a day, explained step by step, with a new theme each week. Keep it up and you’ll build a streak. Miss a few days and your streak is still safe, and any deals you missed are waiting for you in the library. No emails, no reminders, unless you choose to switch them on.

More about the Daily Deal →

Written by bridge players. Checked by computer.

Every lesson is written by people who know and love the game, in plain language, with the judgement that only comes from sitting at the table. Then the computer checks the work. Every deal is played out by a solver that sees all four hands, and every auction is checked against the bidding rules taught in the course. Legal auctions, correct counts, sound leads. Every hand is checked by a solver, and the course is reviewed by bridge players.

  • Every deal

played out by a solver that sees all 52 cards

  • Every auction

checked against your system’s bidding rules

  • Both systems

    checked separately, never just translated

  • 2,000+ hands

and every one checked before it reaches you

Lessons, practice hands, Daily Deals and quiz questions are counted across every level and both bidding systems.

The free plan is a real plan.

Always free: all of Bridge Basics and the first lesson of every topic, in both systems, plus today’s Daily Deal. Plus unlocks every course, every hand and the full Daily Deal library. You’ll always see exactly what’s free before you pay anything, and your progress is yours either way.
